Griffith College is set to host a landmark event on the intersection of artificial intelligence, policy, and national resilience on October 4, 2024. This conference brings together some of Ireland’s leading experts to explore how AI will shape the future of society, governance, and education. 

Keynote speaker Professor Alan Smeaton, Founding Director of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at DCU and Professor of Computing, will deliver his insights on AI’s role in policy and education, drawing from his advisory work with the Irish Government's AI strategy. 

Also joining the panel are: 

  •  David Korowicz (Director of Risk and Response, Geneva Global Initiative), who will examine AI’s broader societal risks, particularly its impact on critical infrastructures and economic stability. 

  • Dr Susan Leavy (Assistant Professor, UCD School of Information and Communication Studies, Member of the Irish Government AI Advisory Council) will discuss AI ethics and societal impact in AI policy development. 

  • Labhaoise Ní Fhaoláin (PhD Researcher in AI Governance, UCD; Non-Practicing Solicitor; SFI Researcher), exploring the governance of AI and the balancing act between innovation and ethics, especially within education. 

  • Sana Khan (DPO & Head of Data Governance Affairs, National Broadband Ireland; Lecturer at Griffith College) will focus on the legal challenges of AI in education, including privacy and data protection.
