Global Game Jam 2018
Global Game Jam 2018
After four glorious years at Microsoft, Global Game Jam returns to Griffith College. Join us for the largest Game Jam in the world and spend a weekend creating something awesome along with 35,000 other jammers around the world!
Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event taking place around the world. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.

FAQs
1) What are the host site opening times?
The Conference Center will be open from
- Friday: 2pm onward
- Saturday: All day
- Sunday: 5pm closing (yes that's right, all night straight through to Sunday evening!)
2) Why do I have to pay in?
We are charging an entry fee to make sure that we can provide some food and giveaways at the event. The Global Game Jam is run by volunteers and we love to give you everything you need over the 48 hours for free, but that is very difficult to organise.
3) OK, what does my entry get me?
All entrants will get a Global Game Jam t-shirts as well as we will provide some of your meals over the Jam.
4) What do I need to bring?
All entrants should have their own computer to allow them to work in their team. We are providing the venue and sustenance (some of it anyway), you need to bring the hardware.
5) I only have a desktop; can I bring that?
Yes, we will have large working desks so space will not be an issue. We are also in the final stages of getting secure lockup on the Friday night so you do not need to bring your machine in and out several times (unless you want to!)
6) I have never made a game, can I take part?
Absolutely, the whole idea behind the Global Game Jam is to meet new people, learn new skills and build something cool in 48 hours.
