International Women's Day Celebrations at Griffith College Dublin
On behalf of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group (Becks Butler, Deirdre Doherty, Jennifer Duffy, Niamh Murtagh, John Eardly, Sally-Anne McIver, Niamh McCay, Eilish Mccarthy, Cara Morris)
We will be holding a coffee morning at 11.00am on Tuesday 8th March in Urban Square. There will be free tea, coffee, pastries and cupcakes.
This IWD campaign is being planned by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group and the aim is to inspire students and staff, while celebrating the diversity of the Griffith College community. The theme for IWD 2022 is Break the Bias and we want to mark this by celebrating women from the college who have pushed boundaries.
There will be an exhibition of photographs of female-identifying staff, students and graduates which shows the diversity of our community and their achievements. The images will be accompanied by profiles to share the stories of women in our community. Students have been involved in taking these photographs at our South Circular Road campus, working alongside photographer and design lecturer Becks Butler. The images will be displayed across the Griffith College campuses and on social media to celebrate International Women’s Day.
We have invited a special guest speaker to the coffee morning, Dr Annie Doona, chairperson of the Academic and Professional Council, Griffith College's highest academic body. Dr Annie Doona is Emeritus President of the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). She has extensive experience in strategy development, educational leadership, curriculum design and delivery, equality and diversity. She speaks and publishes on diversity and women in the film industry. Dr Doona is currently Chair of Screen Ireland, a member of the Institute of Directors, Women in Film and Television Ireland and the European Women Rectors Association. We are delighted to have her joining us to mark International Women’s Day.
