Donore Credit Union and Griffith College Team Up for Student Scholarship
Griffith College and Donore Credit Union award student with Brendan Lynch Scholarship worth €3000.
Griffith College and Donore, Ireland’s first credit union, have presented Accounting & Finance student Zhu Shi Dan with the annual Brendan Lynch Scholarship, which will be used to fund his studies at Griffith College. The scholarship, in honour of the former Lord Mayor of Dublin and Honorary Director of Donore Credit Union Lynch, has been running for three years.
Second-year student Zhu is from China and was the recipient of the scholarship. To receive the award, Zhu had to apply to both Donore Credit Union and Griffith College explaining why he should be the overall winner.
Speaking about the achievement, Zhu said, “It makes my life more colourful here in Ireland. While preparing for this scholarship, I have learned so much and also met a lot of people who work in Donore Credit Union, who are all so welcoming.”
CEO of Donore Credit Union Dave McAuley said, “We’re delighted to announce this year’s winner of the Brendan Lynch Scholarship. We had over 40 applicants, with five reaching the interview stage. Zhu is a worthy recipient of the scholarship; he is a big character with a great personality, who understood and appreciated the Credit Union concept and ideal. In his own life, Zhu has displayed remarkable courage and strength in achieving his goals and I believe he has the attributes to be very successful in his academic and future career.”
