Griffith College Dublin Celebrates International Women's Day 2025

Griffith College Dublin was delighted to host another successful International Women’s Day morning event on Friday, March 7th, on our Dublin Main Campus.
International Women’s Day (IWD) has been celebrated for over a century, yet many challenges to women’s progress remain. Since 1911, IWD has belonged to everyone who believes in gender equality. It’s a day to honor women's achievements, raise awareness of discrimination, and take meaningful action toward gender parity.
This year’s theme, Accelerate Action, emphasises the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
Our guest speakers included Dr Sahar Ahmed, Postgraduate Law Programme Director at Griffith College; Suzanne Whelan, ESG Advisory and Key Note Speaker; Jen Cummins TD; and Social Democrats.
Dr Sahar Ahmed spoke about barriers she has faced in her personal and professional career while navigating her own path as a new mum, working full time as a lecturer, and on various boards fighting for human rights and equality.
Suzanne Whelan spoke about her career progression from a small start-up to a leading financial corporate banking company as a European Head of Development. Suzanne suggested that those in attendance take any experience they get as it's all worth it to give you an appetite for learning knowledge. When faced with working in a man's world, Suzanne pushed herself to have her voice and opinion heard while at the same time helping those around her to break the gender balance.
Keynote Speaker Jen Cummins TD spoke about her journey into politics and her passion for fighting for an educational system that is inclusive and accessible to all. While working as a TD for South Dublin Central Dáil Èireann, Jen outlined the gap in female TDs and those working in politics as a key area to accelerate action for addressing the barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
Thank you to all those who attended our coffee morning and donated to our chosen charity, Women’s Aid.
