GC50 Limerick Event

Established in 1974, Griffith College has been a centre of educational excellence, nurturing talent and shaping futures for half a century.

Griffith College Limerick hosted a distinguished event at the Strand Hotel on May 16th, 2024 to commemorate this significant milestone. It was an evening of celebration, reflecting on the achievements of the past fifty years and looking ahead to the future.

Many esteemed guests attended this landmark occasion, including Minister Kieran O'Donnell and Mayor Gerald Mitchell – highlighting the impact of Griffith College's contributions to education and the broader community. Their presence emphasizes the enduring partnership between Griffith College and the broader community in Limerick and the Mid-West Region, aimed at fostering collaboration and growth.

"We are immensely proud to celebrate this remarkable milestone of 50 years of educational excellence," remarked Kevin O’Sullivan, Head of Campus at Griffith College Limerick.

He continued, "This event not only honours our storied history but also heralds a future filled with endless possibilities and continued dedication to education."

Prof. Diarmuid Hegarty, President of Griffith College, reflected, “Griffith College has achieved much over the past half-century, and our Limerick campus has played a key role since 2006. Its success has been founded on three pillars – a clear focus on our learners, agility in responding to their needs and the needs of industry, and the dedication and commitment of the College’s staff. These strengths will stand to us as we embrace the challenges and opportunities of the next fifty years.”

The event is part of GC50, a series of initiatives to mark Griffith College’s fiftieth anniversary in 2024. Founded in 1974 by Professor Diarmuid Hegarty, Griffith College enjoys a national and international reputation for student success. Many alumni have gone on to distinguished careers in fields as diverse as accountancy, business, computing, design, engineering, law, politics and media.
