Celebrating Bold Women: A Tribute to Irish Heritage and Female Resilience

In the spirit of International Women's Month 2025, faculty lecturer Eva Kelly has created a truly extraordinary project that weaves together art, history, and cultural celebration. Her "Bold Women" illustration project is more than just an artistic endeavour - it's a powerful narrative of Irish female identity, resilience, and transformation.
An Artistic Journey Through Irish History
Eva's project takes shape as a limited-edition silk scarf. With only 50 scarves available, each piece is a collector's item that tells a profound story of Irish women who have shaped the nation's identity.
From revolutionary times to contemporary Ireland, the scarf becomes a canvas that honours women from diverse fields—literature, politics, science, mythology, and activism.
A Deeper Symbolic Narrative
What makes this project truly exceptional is its intricate symbolism. Eva has ingeniously incorporated four sacred Celtic elements—Earth, Water, Air, and Fire—each represented by a powerful animal:
- Bull (Earth): Symbolising strength and groundedness
- Salmon (Water): Representing wisdom and adaptability
- Raven (Air): Embodying intelligence and transformation
- Stag (Fire): Signifying passion and leadership
The background itself is a testament to historical connection, created from rubbings of ancient stones and carvings from the Hill of Tara, linking contemporary storytelling with Celtic traditions.
Technical Brilliance
The scarf is a work of art in its technical execution.
- Limited edition of 50 scarves
- 100% Silk twill
- Generous size: 90cm x 90cm

A Message of Empowerment
At its core, Eva's project carries a powerful message: "Don't be afraid to take risks, challenge the status quo, and leave your own mark on the world." It's an invitation to women everywhere to embrace their potential, celebrate their heritage, and forge their paths with courage.
