Ireland’s Healthcare Revolution with AI: Highlights from Griffith’s Expert Talk
Ireland’s healthcare landscape is experiencing a groundbreaking shift through artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics. This transformation was the focal point of a recent talk at Griffith, where Dr Sapna Chopra from EY provided valuable insights into AI's current and future impacts on patient care and healthcare efficiency in Ireland. Organised by the GBS Innovation Hub at Griffith College, this webinar was held as part of their EU-funded project, AI2MED, which aims to advance AI applications within the medical field.
Key Insights from the Talk
Dr. Chopra emphasised a “people-first” approach, noting that healthcare systems, including Ireland’s, are increasingly adopting population-centred strategies to manage chronic conditions and enhance patient outcomes. By leveraging data analytics, providers can better address health disparities and improve overall care quality.
Ethics in AI was another crucial theme. Dr Chopra discussed the importance of designing technologies with privacy and transparency in mind, aligning with GDPR standards to protect patient data. Ethical principles embedded into AI solutions ensure public trust and reliable adoption across healthcare.
She also highlighted the significance of data interoperability facilitating seamless information flow across healthcare systems through standards like FHIR, which helps providers make informed decisions, reduces redundant tests, and enhances patient experience.
The event underscored how institutions like Griffith play a pivotal role in educating and inspiring future leaders to drive sustainable and ethical AI development in healthcare, by focusing on patient-centred solutions, ethical practices, and robust data security.
