Course Overview
Master the art of 2D Drawing and the fundamentals of computer aided design (CAD) systems.
This advanced professional certificate course enables students to develop advanced skills in architectural drawing techniques using 2D CAD and building 3D models using 3D CAD.
This course is validated by Griffith College. This course focuses on the development of professional skills, while it does not sit on the national framework the module is drawn from Griffith College's suite of QQI-validated programmes.
Why Study Advanced 2D AutoCAD with SketchUp at Griffith College?
The AutoCAD 2D Advanced course runs on a part-time basis over a 12-week period. CAD is used at all stages of the design process, from conceptualisation and production of working drawings to the production of virtual reality images, and has become an essential part of the modern working environment.
- This course covers a wide range of 2D drawings, editing commands, and routines to aid the application of AutoCAD.
- Students will learn the necessary techniques to produce and edit drawings of medium complexity and prepare drawings for output.
- Introduces principles of 3D modelling techniques using 3D CAD.
- Enables students to develop advanced skills in architectural drawing techniques using 2D CAD, and building 3D models using 3D CAD.
- Provides a perfect foundation for participants who wish to progress in the workplace.
- Option to further your studies by progressing onto the Certificate in Introduction to BIM (using Revit).

This course is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 4th March 2025 at Griffith College Dublin Main Campus, South Circular Road, Dublin 8.
This part-time course will run one evening per week from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm, over 12 weeks, course dates outlined below.

How to Apply
Entry Requirements
All applicants must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office & File Management and have previous AutoCAD experience.
This course is delivered through AutoCAD for Windows. Learners are advised that they will need access to either a PC or a laptop with a Microsoft Windows operating system on which they can install a student copy of AutoCAD which will be made available to all participants of the course.

Applicants under 23 years of age:
5 O6/H7 grades in the Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent award OR FETAC Level 5 Full Award
- Industry or educational experience and will need to provide a copy of CV or transcripts of prior learning and a sample of 2D AutoCAD work
Applicants over 23 years of age (Mature students):
If you are 23 years of age from the 1st of January of this year, you can apply for this course directly using the College’s online application form.

It is recommended that applicants have a good understanding of both written and spoken English.
