Griffith College launches second annual Creative Bursary

After partnering with the Institute of Advertising Practitioners Ireland (IAPI), Griffith College is delighted to launch their second annual Creative Bursary.

Creative media is a growing industry, but not one that many college graduates know about. This bursary, aimed primarily at DEIS schools and schools in disadvantaged areas, hopes to improve interest in this viable career path by encouraging students to take part in creative subjects and projects during their school years.

In 2018, Griffith College awarded four schools €10,000 worth of funding between them, with Colaiste Eoin in Finglas, Co. Dublin, receiving the largest sum of €5,000 to put towards creative projects for their school. St. Tiernan’s Community School in Balally received €3000, and Kylemore College in Ballyfermot and St. Paul's in Clontarf were awarded €1000 each.

As well as monetary funding, a number of IAPI’s member agencies (Core, Group M, Guns of Knives, Verve, Chemistry, Dynamo, Mindshare, Epsilon and Bonfire) have partnered with the scheme to provide the winners with experiential opportunities in the form of additional training and “day in the life” experiences.

Participating schools are required to submit a proposal to rebrand their school by designing a new logo and tagline and submitting an accompanying submission video involving students and staff. The deadline for submissions is Friday 31st January 2020 and shortlisted entries will be reviewed by a panel with a view to announcing winners later in March 2020.

Deputy Head of Journalism and Media at Griffith College, Dr. Robbie Smyth, stated in relation to the scheme “We are delighted to be partnering with IAPI in this bursary scheme. It will provide schools with a unique opportunity to explore their identity and create a new brand. At Griffith, we are looking forward to sampling the ideas and plans of the schools involved. This bursary is not just a monetary prize but offers the winning schools access to some of the cutting edge advertisers of today and opens up a new world of creativity to the next generation of creative talent.”

CEO of IAPI Charley Stoney said, “IAPI are delighted to partner with Griffith College for this bursary.  We are passionate about educating young creative minds to the huge scope that the advertising industry offers them beyond the conventional corporate world.  This partnership is a perfect fit for our agency members.”
