Business Student Conor Keeley to Play for Colleges & Universities Team in France
Spotlight On: Conor Keeley
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m 21 years old and currently studying Business at Griffith College, Dublin. I play football part-time and work a part-time job on the weekends too. I am in my second year of business studies and will be graduating in 2020.
When did you start playing soccer?
I started playing football from the very early age of 3 and have played up until this day.
What are your thoughts on the match on Tuesday?
I’m delighted to be called up for such a big game, we played France last summer In Ireland and beat them 2-1 so it’s going to be a competitive game as they’ll be looking to get one over us after the last time. Football has been going well here with Cabinteely and hopefully, I can bring those performances into the game next Tuesday and I’m really looking forward to the trip!
Can you give us some background about your soccer career so far?
I have played for Dunboyne AFC, Shelbourne FC and my current club Cabinteely FC. I played with Dunboyne under 11/12, after that I moved to Shelbourne at under 13's and played for them up until senior level in the League of Ireland. After 2 years at a senior level with them, I moved to Cabinteely and that is where I currently play. My first senior appearance in the League of Ireland was at the age of 17 and last year I received my first cap for Ireland colleges/university level after playing France.
How did you hear about Griffith?
The first time I heard about Griffith was from one of my friend's brothers who started college a year before me; he couldn’t recommend the college enough.
Tell us a little bit about your course
I am enrolled in a business honours degree, It is a three-year course and is tough work but I enjoy every aspect of it. It’s something I ‘d like to get involved in once I graduate from college.
How has Griffith helped you in terms of professional and personal development?
Griffith College has helped me develop in a lot of ways, from meeting new people to working with new people. It’s not a huge campus so you get to know a lot of people, which helped me settle in very quickly. After joining the football team in college, I felt right at home. Everyone was great and I’ve made friends from that team and classmates too. I have also started working part-time in the Students' Union. It’s something I never thought I would be interested in, but working there has brought me on massively as a person.
What is your advice to prospective students considering your course?
I’d highly recommend this course to anyone looking to study business, it allows you to study different areas of business, not just theory based and in third year it allows you to specialise in your preferred areas of business - that was a big factor in my decision to study this particular course.
What are your plans once you graduate?
You could ask me that next year and I still wouldn't know, but the possibility of a masters is definitely something I will be thinking about after these three years.
