Eleven Secondary Schools Participate in Griffith College Entrepreneurial Competition
Griffith College welcomed 11 secondary schools from across the country to its South Circular Road, Dublin campus for the annual Business Enterprise Competition.
Next Generation of Entrepreneurs
Students from Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk Co. Cork were the overall winners with their product, “Covet”, and were awarded €1000 towards the financing of the business plan. In addition, Scoil Mhuire was given a €500 bursary as well as yearly ownership of the Griffith College Business Faculty Enterprising School Perpetual trophy.
Each school submitted a project plan prior to the event which assisted the judging panel’s decision. On the day, the school’s set up their product at a designated stand with posters, slideshows and examples which highlighted their business.
Griffith College staff and students as well as the judging panel visited each stand to inspect the products and ask questions.
The Results
Once the showcase was finished, each school presented to the auditorium which was filled with the judges and spectators. Schools were given 5 minutes to present with 3 minutes allocated to questions from the judges.
After deliberation, the judges chose the winners:
- Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk Co Cork – Covet
- St. Mary’s CBS Tralee Kerry – Recyclewise
- St. Joseph’s Community College Mayo – Simple Road Safety
Speaking about the event, Head of Business Faculty at Griffith College Seamus Fitzpatrick said, “We were very impressed with the quality of business ideas and presentations and it was a pleasure to witness the wonderful entrepreneurial spirit of school teams throughout Ireland. The feedback from the participating teams and their very supportive teachers has been excellent and we congratulate not only the overall winners but all of the finalists and wish them every success in their future careers.”
