Griffith College Radio Lecturer wins GOLD at New York Festivals

A Griffith College Radio lecturer has won gold at the New York Festivals for a documentary aired on RTE radio in 2016.

Jason Murphy, who lectures at Griffith College Cork in Radio Features and Documentaries, took the top spot at the awards ceremony in New York last evening for his documentary No Time to Lose. The programme followed 19-year-old Katie Cooke, who has been epileptic since the age of 9, and suffers up to 15 seizures a day, as she prepared to run the Dublin City half marathon in September 2016.

In 2016, Murphy won a PPI radio award for his documentary An Open Verdict, which told the story of the 36-year-old Iranian-born author Marsha Mehran, who died as a recluse on Ireland’s west coast in 2014.

Murphy is currently researching a PhD in the Department of Media and Communications at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick where he is looking at ways to engage young people in participatory media.
