Griffith Student Chosen as Interior Designer for Hotel in RTE's At Your Service
Griffith College student Gay Jones was chosen as the interior designer for the refurbished Sweeney's Hotel in Dunloe, Donegal.
The hotel was featured on RTE's At Your Service, which sees John and Francis Brennan advise the hotel owners on all aspects of their business.
While John and Francis often share design and styling tips, builder and developer Pat Boyle chose to head to Griffith for top-class interior ideas.
Those who study Griffith's BA in Interior Design were asked to create a five-star space with a contemporary feel combining comfort and leisure for a glamorous client base. The experienced hoteliers asked that students familiarised themselves with international hotel design and took the physical, statutory, historic and cultural building context into consideration when responding to the brief. Other key features that were requested included parking, a signature bar and an emphasis on sustainable design to align with the values of an environmentally conscious clientele.
Pat, who is working on the project with his Chicago-based businessman Kevin Boyle and local hotel manager Martina Rafferty explains:
"We'll get briefs with models, renders and mood boards, we'd hope we're going to find one or two golden nuggets"
"It's going to form part of their thesis and each one of them is going to be given their plans and suggestions for Sweeney's both inside and out."
After visiting Griffith College in Dublin and meeting with the students, Gay's designs were chosen at the best fit.
