Griffith's Michael McNamara Awarded at Mayoral Reception in Limerick

DJ Mickey Mac honoured for contributions to Limerick society

Before he was in charge of Griffith College's nationwide Public Affairs, Michael McNamara was DJ Mickey Mac, with a voice known across the country during the 1980s, when he was an institution on RTE Radio 2. He was the one Dolores O'Riordan approached with her first demo tape and the first to regularly play dance music on Irish airwaves, bringing international influences to an Irish audience with the 2FM Dance Show. He is better known today at Griffith College as one of the friendliest faces around campus and an advisor with the President's Office, still representing his hometown of Limerick with humour and class.

So it was no surprise to those who know him when, at a Mayoral Reception in Limerick yesterday, Michael was recognised for "his career in national radio and his promotion and contribution to many aspects of Limerick society." 

The entire Griffith College community sends its best wishes and congratulations to Michael on this well-deserved achievement!
