As part of the 14th Cork Lifelong Learning Festival 2017, Griffith College Cork invites you to a series of interesting talks from the Faculties of Law, Business, Media and Computing Science.

Teen Safe – Online Safety & Reputation – Faculty of Computing Science

Founder of Childwatch, Pat Mc Kenna, will deliver this workshop on internet safety aimed at educational staff and parents of Secondary school students. Teen Safe from Child Watch is a unique digital education experience based on research.  The second level student, staff and parent material covers: the psychology of the internet; searching online; internet and apps; how you appear online-images and text; online harassment; designing YOU online

Guest Lecture: Trump’s First War: The Conflict in Yemen – Faculty of Law


All welcome to hear a guest lecturer at Griffith College. Dr Susan Power is a graduate in Civil Law from NUI Galway and a Ph D from TCD for her research. She’s a member of the Dissemination Working Group on International Human Rights Law and the Corn Adomnain with the Irish Red Cross. Susan also works as an adjunct legal researcher with Al-Haq, an independent Palestinian NGO based in the West Bank, Ramallah. She has presented to the 2014 United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights.

An Introduction to Photography – Faculty of Media & Journalism


Join Eoin O’Conaill, lecturer in photography at the college, for a workshop on basic photography and the use of Photoshop. Also see an exhibition of work by students.

Eoin O’Conaill’s work has appeared in publications including The New York Times, The Financial Times, The Irish Times, his personal projects have appeared in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally and have been nominated for awards. He holds an MFA in Photography from the University of Ulster.

Memoir Writing Workshop – Faculty of Media & Journalism


Learn how to uncover the story within and without at this workshop with Rachel Andrews. Its aimed at finding inspiration for creative writing both in the landscape that surrounds us, as well as the landscape of memory and imagination. Through exercises, writers- those at ta beginning or more developed stage- are encouraged to look at ways to find ideas for beginning to write story, poetry. Memoir and how to find your own voice.

Rachel Andrews is a writer and journalist. She holds an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University. She has taught creative writing workshops in Triskel Arts Centre and received an essay writing aware from Duke University, USA. She is Head of the Faculty of Journalism here at Griffith College Cork.

An Introduction to Irish

Irish speaker and teacher of English Language at the college, David Scanlon, gives a basic introduction to Irish to people with little or with no knowledge of the language. The class will use “TEFL style” teaching such as communicative activities and simple conversations as Gaeilge. It will also showcase the beauty of the living language. All welcome, but places very limited, so booking essential.

An Introduction to Group Singing

Join a guided introduction with Morgan D’Arcy into choral or group singing for people without any experience. The class covers vocal range, harmony and warm-up techniques. Morgan D’Arcy has been involved in choirs since 2010 as a member of UCC choir. He was also responsible for co-founding and directing the Kenmare Youth Vocal Ensemble. Morgan graduated with a degree in English and Music from UCC and now splits his time between English teaching and performing in the Cork area.

Language Games for Learners of English

Take part in some fun activities that international language students enjoy at Griffith College as part of their course. It’s a great way to improve language in a practical way, while meeting people from other cultures and nationalities. Suits adult learners at the “improvers” stage.
