On August 31, the Griffith College Alumni Office and the Faculty of Journalism and Media Communications were delighted to welcome Mick Clifford and Ellie O’Byrne to discuss Mick’s new book, "A Force for Justice: The Maurice McCabe Story". The book, due for release this Thursday, September 14th, documents the years of struggle for career garda Maurice McCabe and his family, after he became a whistleblower within An Garda Siochána. This event was perfectly timed within the context of Nóirín O’Sullivan’s retirement from An Garda Siochána on Sunday, September 10th and the Disclosures Tribunal which will begin on September 17th.
Ellie O’Byrne did an excellent job asking probing questions, and revealing challenges within the field of investigative journalism. Mick’s in-depth knowledge about the Maurice McCabe whistleblowing scandal, including what’s going on to-date, made for a truly riveting evening of discussion.
Mick Clifford is Special Correspondent for the Irish Examiner. He has been working in print and broadcast journalism for over 20 years. He is the author of three non-fiction books and two crime novels. He was named Newspaper industry’s Journalist of the Year in 2016.
