Why I choose to study English at Griffith College Limerick
My name is Carlos Bacellar, I`m 44 years old, I was born in Brazil and I am teacher in my country. I arrived in Ireland on 17 of February 2017.
I choose Griffith College Limerick for two reasons:
- Griffith College has forty years’ experience
- Griffith College is an academic college as well as language school and for me this is very important as we get a certificate from the college which has a great reputation in my country.
I choose Ireland mainly because the visa allowed me to work part – time while I studied. I choose Limerick because of the connection with the Irish band ‘The Cranberries’. I knew the singer Dolores O’Riordan was born in Limerick and I really liked this band. Also, I wanted to live in a smaller city so Limerick was perfect.
When I arrived in Limerick I lived in Thomond Village and after I rented a house with a Brazilian and Japanese girl. Two months after I arrived in Limerick I started to participate in group hiking and other groups such as International group meet ups where I met people from all over the world. Those groups were very important to me because they enabled me to integrate with local culture.
My first job in limerick was delivering newspapers. I delivered 720 newspapers per week. I worked in this job for four months. In July 2017 I started to work in an Italian restaurant in the city centre, I am still working there today. With this job it was possible for me to renew my course and to travel around Europe. I am happy working there, because I am respected by my boss and friends. The job is hard and totally different to my job in Brazil but this job helps me a lot in my integration in Ireland.
Today I am still studying in Griffith College Limerick on my second English course and I’d like to start my Masters there next year. I love living in Limerick!
