Griffith Graduate Spearheads “Feed Tipp’s Heroes”
Pharmaceutical Technology and Business graduate Helen Shanahan started a GoFundMe page, "Feed Tipp's Heroes," to support Tipperary's healthcare workers, affected by the COVID-19 crisis. We spoke with Helen about the initiative and its success to date.
Griffith Graduate's GoFundMe
"All funds raised are paid to Tipperary restaurants and caterers to deliver food to frontline staff in Tipperary fighting COVID-19. Depending on how much is raised this could include hospital staff, COVID-19 testing centres, ambulance personnel etc. In Tipperary, no one is putting their shoulders to the wheel like our medical staff in fighting COVID-19. I am not a qualified doctor, nurse or health professional so I cannot fight at the frontline. I wanted to support those who are.
"A local restaurant in Clonmel, Galileo, delivered 170 pizzas to South Tipperary General Hospital staff. I wanted to contribute and thought 'If I do then other people will too.' I was inspired by the hugely successful Feed The Heroes GoFundMe campaign and wanted to set up something similar that operated within Tipperary.
Responding to Ireland's Call
"While I am not a healthcare professional, I thought that maybe I could help out in another way. I thought perhaps in an admin or project management capacity. I also thought that the recruiters might see my PGDip Pharmaceutical Technology and Business and find something for me in that area. I applied as a volunteer to 'On Call for Ireland.'"
We at Griffith couldn't be more proud of you, Helen! Thank you for your hard work for Tipperary!
