Spotlight on Success: Emmet McNamara, Irish Jockey

Emmet Mcnamara

Emmet McNamara is an ACCA graduate and professional jockey. His most notable success came when riding Serpentine to victory in the 2020 Epsom Derby, and despite beginning the race as something of an outsider, he achieved what has been described by AB magazine as 'as memorable a victory as the UK's richest horse race has seen'. You can watch how the race unfolded here on YouTube.

During his time at Griffith College, Emmet served as class representative for two years in a row while studying the BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance. Commencing the degree in 2014, Emmet subsequently concluded his studies at Griffith by achieving a first-class honours.

Although Emmet is a professional jockey, his career is not restricted to life on the saddle. He has also been a Trainee Accountant with SportsTax since 2016, putting his Griffith College degree into practice. Emmet aims to integrate his racing experience with his academic qualifications to contribute to the accounting sector within the sport.
