The LSMD Mourns the Loss of Influential Drama Teacher, Anna Scher
Embarking on her professional journey as a Primary school teacher, Anna Scher evolved into a prominent figure in the realm of drama. Over the course of more than fifty years, she dedicated herself to nurturing young talent in North London, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. The LSMD is very proud of its long association with Anna Scher, who was a long-term ambassador and was eventually awarded an honorary Fellowship diploma from The LSMD.
Renowned for shaping numerous stars, Anna distinguished herself by championing individuals from working-class backgrounds in the arts sector, a commitment exemplified by the establishment of her own school in 1968. Scher’s contributions were widely recognised, culminating in her appointment as an MBE in 2013 and the recipient of a lifetime achievement award at the National Film Awards in 2018.
Karen Casey, the Head of Faculty at The LSMD, conveys heartfelt condolences on behalf of all of Anna's friends within The LSMD community to her family, friends and students. Anna left an enduring love of speech and drama with so many people. Her legacy endures not only in the accolades she received, but the countless lives she touched in the artistic landscape she enriched.
May she Rest in Peace.
