Tom Morley's students blaze a trail in traditional Irish Music

The Leinster School of Music & Drama would like to announce the successful international collaboration of our Online Traditional Irish Music Examinations with Tom Morley in the United States of America. The aim of this collaboration is to foster international academic relations for traditional music performance and education. We would like to wish Tom a heartfelt welcome to the LSMD network of teaching and congratulate him on becoming the first teacher in the world to have students examined in our International programme for Traditional Irish Music.​

Tom said "I am super proud to congratulate my five students who were the first in the US (well, actually, first in the world!) to participate in their Online Traditional Irish Music Examinations program, making it the first successful international collaboration with the school in this manner.

"I am so proud of Lizzy Pahs, Tierney Christian Moore, Mary Calvin, Anna Thornton and Juliana McCrary for all the work they put into working up their Irish trad tune sets, making the videos and sending them to Dublin for evaluation–they all received superior certificates and medals!

Karen Casey, head of the Leinster School of Music says "it was an honour for Leinster School of Music for a teacher as renowned as Tom Morley sign up his students for our traditional Irish music exams. His students did fantastically well and it's great to see the tradition spreading in the States thanks to dedicated teachers like Tom".

Our experienced LSMD Examiner of traditional Irish music Catriona Grimes commended each student for their hard work and dedication over the programme. Catriona is a well renowned performer and has been a valued member of the LSMD examining team for a number of years. She won numerous awards including Ulster Champion for her fiddle, tin whistle and piano performances.
