Master desktop publishing skills and graphics design principles with Adobe CS
This part-time, course combines basic desktop publishing skills and graphic design principles with the specifics of how to use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat to create visual communications.
This course is validated by Griffith College. This course focuses on the development of professional skills and does not sit on the national framework.
Why Study Digital Design with Adobe at Griffith College
The Professional Certificate in Digital Design with Adobe course runs on a part-time basis over five Saturdays. The aim of the course is to teach students how to to use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat to create visual communications.
- Course requires no prior knowledge of the software.
- Develop skills in key technologies like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat
- You learn to produce a broad range of documents including newsletters, product leaflets, adverts, posters and sales material for either internal use or for commercial printing.
- Demonstrate graphic techniques by use of appropriate graphic style and typography through a selected medium.
- Use file management and format files for Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator and Photoshop.

Course Content
Raster-based software used to create and edit photos and raster designs, for advanced photo manipulation with filters, effects, and layers. Learners will be looking at the following:
- Initiating a Project
- Exploring the Adobe Photoshop Environment
- Determining Graphic Type and Resolution
- Working with Selections
- Working with Layers
- Photo Retouching
- Enhancing Images with Paint and Filters
- Exploring Image Modes and Colour Adjustments
- Saving Images for Print
Vector-based software which creates and edits vector graphics such as vector-based illustrations, rescaling of objects without losing resolution, ideal for graphic designers to produce logo design, branding etc. Used as a CAD based tool in Fashion Design for drawing design flats. We will be looking at the following:
- Introduction to Adobe Illustrator
- Creating Shapes in a Document
- Creating Custom Paths
- Working with Text
- Working with Objects
- Enhancing Documents
- Proofing Documents
Mainly text based, the software is industry leading for the development of automated master multi-page documents like books and interactive PDF’s. InDesign utilises design elements from Photoshop and Illustrator and has outstanding typography control tools.

Applicants under 23 years of age:
Minimum 5 O6s/H7s in the Irish Leaving Certificate or equivalent award
OR
FETAC Level 5 Full Award
Applicants above 23 years of age (Mature students):
Direct entry - If you are 23 years or over from the 1st January of this year, you can apply for this course directly using the College’s online application form.
It is recommended that applicants have a good understanding of both written and spoken English.
