International Women's Day

We celebrated International Women's Day in numerous ways this year:

  • We interviewed a number of our senior female staff to find out what International Women's Day meant to them and what advice they would give younger females to #BreakTheBias. You can click on the following names to read the articles written on them: Aine McManus, Karen Sutton, Jacqui Tracey, Kirstie Muldoon, Tanya Doyle, Sinead Murphy and Deirdre Doherty.
  • We asked students why International Women's Day was important and compiled their answers into a video which you can watch here.
  • We organised an exhibition of photographs of female-identifying staff, students and graduates. This photo shoot was very special because not only were women in front of the camera but also behind it. Working alongside photographer and design lecturer Becks Butler, the portraits were taken by female-identifying Griffith College photography students. The images were displayed across the Griffith College campuses, can be viewed here and a video of the behind the scenes footage can be viewed here too.
  • During the photo shoot we also asked those being photographed various gender equality questions. You can read each of their profiles and answers here.
  • We hosted a free coffee morning at 11 am on Tuesday 8th March where the main theme was breaking the bias. To see photos from the Dublin event, click here. To see the video from the Cork event, click here.
  • We were also very excited to have a special guest speaker at the coffee morning, Dr Annie Doona, chairperson of the Academic and Professional Council, Griffith College's highest academic body. Dr Annie Doona is Emeritus President of the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). She has extensive experience in strategy development, educational leadership, curriculum design and delivery, equality and diversity. She speaks and publishes on diversity and women in the film industry. Dr Doona is currently Chair of Screen Ireland, a member of the Institute of Directors, Women in Film and Television Ireland and the European Women Rectors Association. We are delighted to have her joining us to mark International Women’s Day.
