Development Activities
Biography
Gary is a practising barrister, working in the areas of public law and judicial review, in particular immigration and asylum, social welfare, and general practice. Gary studied BCL (Law and Irish) at University College Cork and the University of Montana, before continuing on to pursue an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Public Policy. He has also taught at University College Cork and the Honorable Society of Kings Inns. Prior to commencing practice, Gary worked for the Court Services as an Executive Legal Officer to the President of the Court of Appeal.
Teaching
Lecturer: The Honourable Society of Kings Inns (2022 to Present)
- Lectured students in the Human Rights Law course on the Diploma in Legal Studies programme.
- Ensured that students understood the European Convention on Human Rights system and its implementation in domestic law.
Mooting Coordinator: The Honourable Society of Kings Inns (2021 to Present)
- Coached the external moot court teams taking part in the ICC Moot Court Competition, Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition, Telders International Moot Court Competition, and Helga Pederson ECHR Moot Court Competition.
- Successfully coached the Kings Inns team to victory in the ICC Moot Court Competition 2022.
- Organised and administered internal moot court competitions.
- Assisted in the conducting of intensive advocacy weekends designed to improve students’ presentation and advocacy skills.
Lecturer: Griffith College Dublin (2021 to Present)
- Lectured students in Public International Law at LLM level.
- Lectured students in Land Law on the DLSP.
Tutor: The Honourable Society of Kings Inns (2020 to Present)
- Tutored students in the Irish Legal Terminology course on the Barrister-at-Law degree programme.
- Ensured that students fulfilled the requirements of the Legal Practitioners (Irish Language) Act 2008.
Assistant Lecturer: UCC School of Law (2015-2016 and 2020-2021)
- Tutored and lectured law students in Constitutional Law (through the Irish language) and Oral Advocacy.
- Assisted students in their understanding of contemporary issues in Irish Constitutional Law in particular those relating to the institutions of democracy and fundamental rights, including its interaction with EU Law.
- Supported the permanent lecturing staff in the grading of assessments.
