Biography
Liza Marron is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Design, specialising in Pattern Drafting and Garment Construction. She has a distinguished career in Ireland’s fashion industry, working as both a lecturer and a fashion designer. After studying Visual Display and Graphic Design in DIT she worked as a visual display designer for department stores throughout Ireland and a graphic designer in the news media. Liza continued her studies in NCAD where she received a 1st Class Honours Degree in Fashion Design. She worked for the luxury womenswear brand Louise Kennedy as the senior fashion designer and production manager responsible for overseeing all aspects of the critical path, from design concept, fabric sourcing, sampling, range planning, design development, costings, production orders to product delivery. She managed the supply base globally, ensuring strong manufacturing relationships with luxury Italian tailors, Portuguese ateliers, Indian artisans, bespoke shirt makers Turnbull & Asser and Irish jersey manufacturers, and counts herself fortunate to have worked with highly skilled craftspeople specializing in cutting edge technologies in textile design, surface decoration, knitwear, styling, photography, illustration, pattern cutting, garment construction and transformation.
Liza currently lectures in third level colleges in both Fashion Design and Art & Design, and has held the role of Course Director on Fashion Buying & Merchandising curriculums. She is passionate about nurturing future generations of creative visionaries and giving them the skills and knowledge to be innovative thinkers and makers in this ever-changing industry. Liza encourages and motivates her students to reach their individual potential in craft and technology, and challenges them to push the boundaries through exploration, experimentation and investigation.
