Traditional Irish Music Examinations

About

In designing the LSMD traditional Irish music syllabus, the particular skills of the learner are taken into account; these include memory, aural, technique, interpretation, contextual and music reading skills. A wide element of choice is facilitated; learners can select from a broad suggested repertoire, or perform a tune/set of their own choice of equal standard.

At the LSMD, we feel a special affiliation with this music through our connection with one of our early professors, Arthur Darley. The Leinster School of Music & Drama certificates were designed by Grace Gifford Plunkett. Learn more about the LSMD's story here.

Record yourself introducing and playing your chosen repertoire and share it with us on Dropbox. Once we successfully receive your submission we will send a confirmation email. Your submission will then be passed onto our LSMD examiner who will review your submission, grade you according to your submission and provide feedback on your performance.

  • Record yourself introducing and playing your chosen repertoire. See sample video for more information and guidance.
  • Save the recorded pieces as Your Name, Instrument, Grade and Email Contact and submit the video via Dropbox.
  • Share your video with the LSMD on Dropbox using [email protected].
  • You will receive a confirmation email once your submission has been successfully received. Please note that your application is only considered to be submitted once you receive a confirmation email from us.

Your submission will be reviewed by our examiners, who will grade you according to the syllabus. If the candidate is successful your certificate and report card, which includes feedback, will be issued to you by The Leinster School of Music & Drama.
